VEHICLES ARE COVERED BY CALIFORNIA LEMON LAW
If you purchased or leased a defective vehicle in California, you may be protected under the California Lemon Law (Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act). This law applies to a wide range of vehicles — not just brand-new cars — as long as the vehicle was sold or leased with a manufacturer’s warranty.
At Cali Law Firm, APC, we help consumers determine whether their vehicle qualifies for a refund, replacement, or cash compensation under California Lemon Law.

What Vehicles Are Covered by California Lemon Law?
California Lemon Law, formally known as the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, protects consumers who purchase or lease vehicles with serious defects that impair the vehicle’s use, value, or safety.
If a manufacturer fails to repair a defect after a reasonable number of attempts, the vehicle may qualify as a lemon, entitling you to compensation.
What vehicles are covered?
The California Lemon Law covers most vehicles used for personal, family, or household purposes, and certain business vehicles, when warranty defects cannot be repaired after a reasonable number of attempts.
New Cars
California Lemon Law applies to new cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, and passenger vehicles purchased or leased in California that are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty.
Common examples:
-
Sedans
-
SUVs
-
Pickup trucks
-
Minivans
-
Crossovers
Used Vehicles Under Manufacturer’s Warranty
-
Used vehicles are covered if they are a certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicle with manufacturer warranty.
Leased Vehicles
If you leased a vehicle with a manufacturer’s warranty, you have the same Lemon Law rights as a buyer, including the right to a refund or replacement.
Vehicles NOT Covered by California Lemon Law
The Lemon Law generally does not apply to:
-
Vehicles sold “as-is” with no manufacturer’s warranty
-
Used vehicles that are not certified pre-owned
-
Off-road vehicles (ATVs, dirt bikes not street-legal)
-
Heavy commercial or fleet vehicles
-
Defects caused by abuse, misuse, or lack of maintenance
